Julian Mathews
Mandolin, occasional fiddle and Vocals
Don’t be fooled by the poncey name and demeanor. Julian is an awesome bluegrass picker who has adapted his style with extraordinary flair to the cajun sound. He also provides a touch of the Ry Cooders when the song demands.
Robin Cooper
Percussionist in chief
If it makes a good noise when its hit, Robin will hit it! Be amazed at the sounds he gets from the interesting collection of banging, clanking and rattling things he’s put together over the years. But don’t get too close!
Jim Tipler
Guitar and Vocals
Big Jim is the band’s main songwriter and plays guitar. He plays with a delicate, country/blues finger picking style on those soulful numbers and gives a full on driving rhythm when a tune is cooking, that has to be heard to be believed. Has broken enough strings since the Dawgs formation to knit a very uncomfortable vest - seems that passion has heavy hands.
Bob Tipler
Accordion
Never looked back since swapping his drum set for squeeze box in his late teens. Plays the accordion (heck and sometimes the triangle) as he imagines Angus Young from AC/DC would if he had one. Also a big fan of the late Bon Scott (Also of AC/DC) who’s bawdy lyrics and outlook on life, influence the songs Bob writes and performs with The Dawgs.
Alan Saxby
String Bass
A true rocking, string bass player, Al has a background on the Rockabilly and Western Swing scene. His style of playing has been compared to that of watching a horny Jack Russell trying to mate a wardrobe but man that crazy thumping bass sound...
Jake Buckton
Fiddle and occasional mandolin.
Already a fine mandolin player, Jake took up the fiddle a couple of years back and adds a truly authentic and raspingly raw fiddle style which provides a mean brother to Julian’s mandolin. He really is as hard as he looks but its the sound of those strings that will tear your heart out.
